Volunteer Opportunities

AED strives to find and collect volunteer opportunities for our members and premedical students.

University organizations that are always looking for volunteers

  • EMPOWER: mentor special needs students on campus socially, academically, or recreationally --  2 hours weekly -- contact Amanda Wallace (aw008@uark.edu) or click here for more info

  • CEA Notetakers: upload your class notes for students in need of academic accommodations -- 50 volunteer service hours or $50 per course -- contact ceanotes@uark.edu or click here for more info.

  • Tiny Tusks Breastfeeding and Infant Support: interested in pediatrics or women's health? Volunteer to help run the breastfeeding and infant care tents at Razorback football/basketball/gymnastics events. Contact Dr. Allison Scott (als002@uark.edu) for more information. (nursing student interns have priority, but they're always looking for help)

  • Volunteer Action Center: RSO on campus dedicated to volunteering in the community. This is great for those interested in a variety of volunteering and leadership opportunities. Visit their website or their hogsync page for more information.

  • Full Circle Food Pantry website

3rd Party Organizations that are always looking for volunteers:

  • Tricycle Farms

  • Potter's House

  • Beautiful Lives Boutique

  • Fayetteville Animal Shelter

  • Fayetteville Boys and Girls Club

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of America

  • Health Walks (American Heart Association "Heart Walk," Susan G. Komen "More Than a Pink Walk," etc)

Other Ideas:

  • Hospitals are always looking for volunteers. Try their websites and we recommend calling or emailing their main contact for more details.

  • See if your local church has any volunteering opportunities. If not, that's a perfect opportunity to make new ones! Ideas from other premeds: food/clothing/toiletry drives, mission trips, bible study teacher/assistant, and lector/usher services.

  • If there aren't opportunities immediately there for you, MAKE THEM! This says a lot about your work ethic, drive, leadership, and desire to make a difference. Ideas from other premeds: initiate local cleanups, make care packages for military, create survival packs for the homeless, seek elderly neighbors in need of house/yard work, offer your talents to the community (ex. play your violin for patients in nursing homes/rehab centers/long-term care facilities, teach those with special needs how to cook basic meals, or read to children at a daycare).
