Emily Richey
AED President
Hey everyone! I am Emily Richey, and I am your 2020-2021 AED President! I am a junior biochemistry major from Paris, Arkansas. Outside of school and AED, I am very passionate about my non-profit organization that I founded called Dolls for Dementia, Inc. Find me sometime, and I would love to tell you all about it! In my “free time” outside of school, volunteering, and research, I love to travel, play with my golden doodle, and go to C3! I hope to one day be a radiologist and continue my non-profit endeavors to make a difference in communities in Arkansas. Please reach out to me! I would love to get to know y’all!
Caroline Manning
AED Vice President
Hey guys! I am Caroline Manning, and I am your 2020-2021 AED Vice President. I am a junior biology major with minors in history and medical humanities from Shreveport, Louisiana. In addition to being involved in AED, I am also a Student Ambassador on campus and love giving tours to prospective students. In my free time, I love hanging out with friends and drawing. During the summers, I work at a school for autistic children in my hometown, which is something I am super passionate about. My dream would be to become a pediatric neurologist and spend my time researching autism. If you ever need anything, please reach out to me!
Sydney Potter
AED Secretary
Hi! My name is Sydney Potter and I am your secretary this year. I am a chemistry and biology major from Fayetteville. In addition to being involved in AED, I am also volunteering at Lifesource and doing research. Over the last year, I have also enjoyed working as a nursing assistant at the Pat Walker Women’s Clinic. In my free time, I like to hike, spend time with my friends and bake.One day, I would like to work in inner city clinics and volunteer to serve those that can’t afford medical care. Olivia Parker
AED Reporter
Hi, my name is Olivia Parker and I will be your Reporter this year. I am a sophomore Biochemistry major from North Little Rock, AR. As the reporter I am responsible for all of the communications between AED and you guys. Any email with an update or newsletter comes from me! I am involved in all the typical pre-medical activities like shadowing, volunteering and research, but in my free time I love to play sports and hangout with friends. I have also been a barista for 4 years at Starbucks so coffee is a big passion of mine. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to email and I will send you in the right direction.
Mandy Tomanek
AED Treasurer
Hi guys my name is Mandy Tomanek and I am so excited to get to serve as your treasurer this year! I am a sophomore majoring in biochemistry from Springfield, MO. In addition to being in AED, I serve as the Director of Membership Engagement on Executive Cabinet for ASG, the treasurer of CAPS Ambassadors, a Student Ambassador giving tours to prospective students, and work in a research lab. When I have spare time, I enjoy volunteering, going to the gym with friends to play wallyball, as well as going hiking around the Buffalo River. Additionally, I work as a caregiver for a girl with special needs and have volunteered at a camp for individuals with special needs for the past six summers. I love getting to interact with other students so feel free to reach out if you have any ideas for percentage nights or other recommendations! I’m so excited to work with you all this year.
Sadie Beeman
AED Historian
Hello everyone! I am Sadie Beeman, and I am excited to serve as your Historian! I am a sophomore biology major from down the road in Lowell, Arkansas. Outside of AED, I am also involved in Alpha Lambda Delta as the New Member Relations Chair, Razorback Food Recovery, and Fellowship Bible Church. Additionally, I volunteer at a local elementary school as a tutor and enjoy every minute of it! During the summer, I work as a counselor at Camp War Eagle in Rogers. I love reading a good book, camping, watching movies, or catching a softball game in my free time. I hope to become a pediatrician or family medicine physician in the future. Clay Martin
AED Peer Mentor Chair
Hey everyone! My name is Clay Martin and I get to serve as your 2020-2021 Peer Mentor Chair! I’m a junior biochemistry major with minors in Spanish and medical humanities and I’m from Bolivar, MO. Outside of AED, I am involved in New Heights Church, Dr Kumar’s biochemistry research lab, and I’m an RA. I enjoy spending time with friends, working out, and playing racquetball. I hope to one day be either a pediatrician or a family medicine doctor. I would also love to someday practice in Spanish-speaking communities, either permanently or by doing medical mission trips, or both! I’d love to get to know all of you so feel free to reach out with AMP ideas or anything else anytime!
Drew McFall
AED Volunteer Co-Chair
Hey everyone! I’m Drew McFall and I am thrilled to serve as one of your Volunteer Co-Chairs this year! I am a junior Biology major with minors in Psychology and Nutrition from Leachville, Arkansas. Apart from classes and AED, I am also the current vice president of the Red Cross Student Organization here on campus. I am passionate about serving those who are under-served and hope to someday be able to practice medicine in a rural community like the one I grew up in. For my medical career, I would like to become a cardiovascular surgeon or a neurologist, but I plan on keeping an open mind during medical school. When I’m not busy with school and the weather is nice, I enjoy fishing and hiking around Northwest Arkansas. Hi everyone, my name is Kristen Gates and I am one of your Volunteer Co-Chairs. My major is Biology and I’m an African and African American studies minor. I’m proud to call Fayetteville home. If I’m not on campus, I’m hiking under forest canopy or diving for the ball at a sand volleyball court. Currently, I am a Patient Support Volunteer at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. I’ve been volunteering in NWA since I was twelve, so I’m in the know about getting involved here. I’m excited to get you connected with local organizations to fuel your pre-med compassion! Hi, my name is Mia Alshami and I will be serving as your Diversity Co-chair for this year. I am currently a sophomore biochemistry and psychology major from Little Rock, Arkansas. As diversity co-chair, I will be responsible for coordinating and organizing events, so please do not hesitate to message me if you have any cool ideas for AED events! I am involved in the Muslim Student’s Association on campus and I have loved coordinating events to make people aware of what Islam looks like at the University of Arkansas. Josue Calderon
AED Diversity Co-Chair
Hello everyone! My name is Josue Calderon and I am honored to serve as one of your Diversity Co-chairs for AED this year. I am a Senior Biology major with a minor in Spanish. I was born in El Salvador (Central America), but I have been living in Rogers, AR for the past 10 years. Aside from my involvement in AED, I volunteer in an innovation team at the McMillon Innovation Studio, work as a dialysis technician at a local clinic, and serve as the Vice President of Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Upon completion of medical school, I hope to become a family medicine physician and serve minorities and low-income communities here in Arkansas.
